Yusril Ihza Mahendra was born on February 5, 1956, in East Belitung. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Universitas Indonesia in 1983. He then pursued postgraduate studies at Universitas Indonesia in Law and Islamic Studies in the same year. He continued his education in the Humanities and Social Sciences postgraduate program at the University of Punjab, Pakistan. Later, he pursued further studies at the Universiti Sains Malaysia, where he obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Political Science from the Doctoral Education Institute in 1993. He was later appointed as a Professor of Law at Universitas Indonesia, where he continues to hold the title of Professor of Law.
